ILLINOIS MARCHING BANDS: LONG TRADITIONS OF EXCELLENCE

Get to know a new one every few days right here!

  PARIS COOPERATIVE HIGH SCHOOL

The 45-member band enters the field, led by drum majors Aaron Garver and Alex Elmore, for the first time in school history as an extracurricular unit. Erika Hollis coaches the dancers, Scott Bennett works with the guard, and Ryan Tripp with the percussion.

Their show makes use of various stories surrounding adventures in the land of Oz, including the musicals The Wizard of Oz, The Wiz, and Wicked.

They worked on the show’s eight minutes during three weeks of band camp this summer, going all day for two weeks, then in the evenings for the mid-August heat.

You’ll have several chances this fall to see the Beacon Brigade, the band formerly known as the Marching Tigers. In addition to home football games, they’ll be entertaining the crowds at several multi-band festivals:

Sept. 22 in Monticello

Sept. 29 in Danville

Oct. 6 at Eastern Illinois University

Oct. 20 in Effingham AND Newton

Oct. 27 in Oblong

Daniel Tripp, director, and students from Paris Cooperative High School present their 2012 field show, “Ozmosis.”

The show ends with a “bang,” we’re told, featuring a take on “Defying Gravity,” Elpheba and Glinda’s Act I finale from Wicked, music by Stephen Schwartz. Some music used in the show was arranged by Chicago’s own Rick Saucedo.

Home About ... Coverage I think we’re going to the moon because it’s in the nature of the human being to
face challenges. It’s in the nature of his deep inner soul. We’re required to
do these things just as salmon swim upstream.—Neil Armstrong, 1930-2012
